Rothera has based its exchange and clearing platform on Adaptive’s Aeron Exchange Accelerator infrastructure.
Rothera, which serves event contract markets, has launched an exchange and clearing platform via Adaptive’s Aeron Exchange Accelerator technology, officials say.
Rothera is a designated contract market (DCM) and derivatives clearing organization (DCO) regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
“Delivered in less than five months, the platform enables Rothera to offer trading in swaps related to emergent and planned world events, such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” according to Adaptive. The underlying Aeron-based architecture supports thousands of concurrent contracts across the low-latency, high-availability platform in a 24/7 environment..
“Launching in time for The World Cup was imperative, and we had less than five months to build,” says Tom Chippas, CEO at Rothera, in a prepared statement.
Rothera needed “the next generation of regulated, institutional-grade event contract market infrastructure. They needed more than just a fast launch; they required a future-proof technology foundation capable of handling immense concurrent volumes 24/7, without sacrificing performance,” says Matt Barrett, CEO and co-founder at Adaptive, in a statement.
The platform handled $3 billion in contracts “during the first two months of operations and is now approaching a 10 percent share of the U.S. event contract market volume,” according to Adaptive.
Rothera is a Chicago-based neutral marketplace that offers institutional-grade trading and clearing infrastructure for futures commission merchants (FCMs), intermediaries, market makers, and other firms. Rothera is a joint venture between Robinhood and Susquehanna International Group, officials say.
