Mack Gill, the chief operating officer (COO) at post-trade solutions provider Torstone Technology, reports in this FTF News video that he and Torstone have experienced a major shift in the industry’s adoption of cloud computing over the past two years.
This “very discernible shift” took shape about every six months over the past 24 months, says Gill, when asked about major trends in cloud computing and the native-cloud development of new post-trade systems.
“We were a very early adopter of our service on AWS [Amazon Web Services], and it felt very much like pushing a new paradigm in past years,” Gill says. “But, now, we’re seeing across the board — tier-twos and tier-ones even — much more open to cloud adoption. And, as you say, much more of a shift into native cloud development as well.”
In addition, there has been a major embrace of AWS and hybrid cloud environments by financial services firms.
“AWS has done a fantastic job in really proving the model and giving global institutions comfort that there’s the infrastructure, the scalability, and most importantly, the security to move key operational tasks onto the cloud,” Gill says. “We do live in a hybrid cloud environment — there are other providers. I do think AWS has done a great job, but it’s interesting to see the maturity of the industry with the whole range of cloud providers emerging on a global basis.”
