Performance measurement teams should have a retort ready when C-level executives declare: “We don’t have time to measure our day-to-day work.”
So says Brett Schneiter, CFA, CAIA, manager, investment analysts, at Aegon Asset Management, based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was the moderator for the recent “Making the Case For More Resources” panel at FTF’s Performance Measurement Americas conference, PMA 19, held in New York City, last month.
“I think it’s important that we understand our key metrics, our key deliverables to educate our managers, the firm itself,” Schneiter says during his video interview with FTF News.
In fact, it’s vital for performance measurement teams and managers to communicate to upper management not only what the team needs as far as resources but what the return is for those resources. Upper management should know about all of the functions of a performance team and “the value-add, the benefits that we provide,” Schneiter says. “So, I do think it’s important to have the right metrics and have the right kind of framework to articulate that up to management.”
