Investors need to get old school when dealing with the new school realities of the crypto currency phenomenon.
So says Pat Chaukos, deputy director at OSC LaunchPad, an initiative of the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) to foster financial technology innovation for Canada’s capital markets. Chaukos took part in a video interview with FTF News during FTF’s SecOps North America conference held in Toronto last month.
“I think right now there’s a lot of hype, craze and speculation in the crypto currency markets,” Chaukos says. “I think from our perspective investors really need to ask themselves the basic questions. When I’m investing money in a crypto currency, what I getting in return? What rights do I have? What is the management team telling me they’re going to build in terms of their business? Ultimately, if anything goes wrong, who would I turn to?”
Chaukos served as the moderator for the “Canadian Markets Grapple with Crypto Currencies” session during the first day of the SecOps conference.
