The Aurora Cloud Region and co-location facility could be available for client testing by mid-2027.
CME Group reports that it has completed initial performance testing for its electronic trading platform CME Globex in the cloud, which marks a new milestone for the migration of the markets that the derivatives marketplace company serves.
Among other features, the move to cloud computing is intended to provide faster round-trip times for trading, officials add.
Overall, the Aurora Cloud Region and co-location facility is ahead of the construction schedule for the facility. The facility will host Google Cloud’s “new, industry-first specialized platform to support trading of CME Group markets,” officials say. The platform is slated to be available for client testing in mid-2027, while the Dallas disaster recovery facility has been open for testing since June 2026.
The CME Group’s livestock market migration to the cloud will take place “out of the new Aurora Cloud Region in late 2027,” and interim relocation to Dallas is no longer necessary, officials say.
“We are very pleased to be making faster than anticipated progress on our transition plans to migrate our markets to the cloud,” says Terry Duffy, CME Group chairman and CEO, in a prepared statement. “Given the accelerated timeline on our Aurora Cloud Region as well as strong initial performance testing, we will deliver the first cloud-based solution for ultra-low latency trading sooner than expected. We will work to ensure our clients can access both Google Cloud-managed services and co-location capabilities in Aurora in late 2027.”
CME Group’s trading venues and technology support transactions in futures, options, cash, and over-the-counter (OTC) markets, officials say. CME Group exchanges also offer global benchmark products across all major asset classes based on interest rates, equity indexes, foreign exchange, cryptocurrencies, energy, agricultural products, and metals.
