About the Event

The clock is ticking for industry participants that need to come up to speed with the Uncleared Margin Rules (UMR) Phase 6 deadline of September 1, 2022. In fact, more firms than ever before are in scope for the reforms, including asset owners and asset managers. As firms plan move toward compliance, they are realizing that they cannot rely solely on their counterparties or providers for key metrics such as  AANA calculations, ISDA’s SIMM for initial margin on noncleared derivatives, and, ultimately, the amount of collateral needed as margin. There are also legal matters and documentation requirements that must be met by the deadline. In particular, asset owners and other buy-side firms have to fully understand what their regulatory and fiduciary responsibilities are. Otherwise, they may face a complete shutdown in trading and/or fines and penalties.

The webinar will cover:

  • What do derivatives end-users need to know about UMR Phase 6 rules?
  • How does a firm determine what its AANA is? What is the best way for firms to work with counterparties and third parties in determining AANA?
  • Once a firm has clarified its UMR numbers, how does it approach the IM threshold monitoring
  • What’s the timing for compliance once a firm has hit the $50 million IM threshold, assuming a firm is over $8 billion?
  • What is the difference between the AANA and threshold calculations?
  • What are some effective best practices for managing custodial relationships? What decisions need to be made by the end-user (tri-party/third party)? What are the implications for collateral types? How can third-party advisors make the process easier?
  • What documentation needs to change for Phase 6?
  • How can a buy-side firm verify the exposure numbers upon which they are relying? What methods are available for verifying the Phase 6 calculations?
  • What major operational changes should firms anticipate engaging in? What are the major cost areas of this transition? How should firms control those costs?
  • What lessons from the Phase 5 deadline compliance effort can help with Phase 6 compliance?
  • What requirements such as annual AANA calculations will continue after Phase 6 compliance is achieved?
  • What are the consequences for noncompliance?
  • What does ongoing compliance look like after a firm is onboarded?
