Officials at the firm say they are deepening their commitment to the Canton Network.
Franklin Templeton Digital Assets officials say they are deepening their commitment to the Canton Network by becoming a Super Validator for the blockchain infrastructure. The announcement came via a recent posting on the X social media channel.
“Financial institutions shouldn’t just use blockchains. They should help run them. TradFi and DeFi are becoming one. @CantonNetwork is one of the players accelerating that convergence through its chain, purpose-built for institutional finance,” according to the X posting. “So, we’re deepening our commitment to operating blockchain infrastructure by becoming a Super Validator on Canton.”
A “Super Validator” for the Canton Network “is the name for any independent organization that supports the operation of the Global Synchronizer,” usually by verifying transactions and assisting with network integrity, according to Canton Network officials. “The Global Synchronizer is a decentralized and transparently governed interoperability service for the Canton Network, addressing financial industry calls for unifying infrastructure to connect, drive liquidity, and unleash the full potential of tokenized assets.”
Overall, Super Validators “are a broad mix of organizations from across the TradFi and DeFi landscape,” Canton Network officials add.
“At Franklin Templeton, our focus has always been on making tokenized assets genuinely useful for institutions, with security and compliance at the forefront. By serving as a Super Validator, we’re contributing to the core infrastructure that keeps transactions secure today and lays the foundation for institutional capital to move onchain in the years to come,” according to the X posting.
In November of last year, the Canton Network officials announced the expansion of Franklin Templeton’s Benji Technology Platform onto the Canton Blockchain, “providing global institutional clients with seamless access to tokenized investment products,” officials say. “The Benji Technology Platform is Franklin Templeton’s proprietary blockchain-integrated stack, designed to facilitate the administration of token-based investments.”
Franklin Templeton applied the Benji platform to launch “the world’s first U.S.-registered mutual fund in 2021 using blockchain-integrated technology to process transactions and record share ownership. The firm has since launched several tokenized investment products, fully on-chain, that support a wide range of global client needs across retail, wealth, institutional, bank and collateral use cases,” officials say.
The Canton Network is a public, permissionless blockchain purpose-built for institutional finance and was originally developed by the software company Digital Asset Holdings and is now open-sourced. The network is based on the native token Canton Coin and “supports decentralized governance and collaborative application development,” officials say.
